Stavros completed his PhD thesis at the European University Institute and his doctoral research focused on the protection of the environment from the impacts of an armed conflict. He is also a researcher at the Athens Public International Law Center and has published in the fields of international humanitarian law, international environmental law, and autonomous weapons systems.

He holds an undergraduate law degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and LLM degrees in international law from LSE, the European University Institute and the University of Athens. Stavros has delivered guest lectures on international law at various universities and was a Teaching Fellow at SciencesPo Paris (Reims campus) where he taught international humanitarian law, human rights law, and law of the use of force. He is admitted to the Athens Bar.
