Annual conference that provides insights into military approaches towards environmental management.
The ECDE began in 2013 and is organised by the Finnish defence administration and is supported by DEFNET, an informal, expert-level, group comprising mainly of environmental focal-points and specialists from the Ministries of Defence (MODs) of EU Member States, and Nordic-Baltic Defence Estates, which is a cooperation forum for building and construction organizations of defence administrations in the Nordic and Baltic countries. The ECDE is Europe’s premier conference on the environmental impacts of military operations, live-fire training on military training lands and management of environmentally hazardous substances. In addition the conference covers topics such as environmental management, policy and legislative issues, and energy efficiency of military facilities. It provides a discussion forum for all stakeholder groups including policy and decision makers, subject matter experts, authorities, academics and the industry. In its first two editions in 2013 and 2015, the ECDE attracted more than 100 participants from all over the Europe and North America.
