New draft principles focused on post-conflict environmental measures.
The main focus of the International Law Commission’s third report on the protection of the environment in relation to armed conflicts is to identify rules applicable in post conflict situations. It addresses legal aspects related to remnants of war and other environmental challenges. It also includes proposals on post-conflict measures, access to and sharing of information, and post -conflict environmental assessments and reviews. However, the report is not strictly limited to the post-conflict phase. In order to get an overview of the topic it also addresses preventive measures, as only one draft principle thus far has been suggested with respect to that phase. The report also includes a draft principle on the rights of indigenous peoples.
